Life Drawing 5

5 Mins each!

10 Mins each - don't think they're that much better than the 5 min ones o.0

Idk why my 20 min drawing always turns out crappy.

30 Mins - happy with this but took ages to get the hand/chest part right, so didn't have time to do much shading or anything.

It's getting easier, this time I had to concentrate a lot less on trying to get the proportions right etc, so I enjoyed the process a lot more (:

Life Drawing 4

I didn't go for the session last week cuz I was at the pub with my teammates after a squash match (oops). But here's pics from a very fruitful session this week!

5 Mins - first sketch of the session!

10 Mins (each)

20 Mins - yea, he wasn't some sort of alien, I just dont know what happened to his head.

30 Mins - REALLY proud of this, seriously surprised myself with how it turned out

I think because I'm not used to drawing guys I was observing much more closely, and probably because of that the proportions turned out well, and I didn't have a problem with my drawing running off the paper (which it kept trying to do before) so I'm really pleased ^^
The next session is a taught one, so looking forward to that!

Life Drawing 3

15 mins

30 mins

Tried using charcoal for the first one, I'm really disappointed, compared to something like:

or (being slightly more realistic) even:

I really prefer the second one, I think the more varied shading looks better instead of all diagonally in one direction.

Life Drawing 2

From my second session this week:

Although the anatomy is not nearly perfect, I felt a lot more confident this time, and I feel better about how these drawings have turned out compared to the previous ones. Still need to speed up though, and to get the basic structure right faster. Also I still have serious problems doing the face, hands and hair. Trying to stop thinking of them as distractions lol.

Life Drawing!

And after a very long break in which I did very little art because I was working 6 days a week (this was supposed to be my summer holidays!!), I'm back. I had fun doing two internships. And recently I've joined the Art Society which does weekly life drawing sessions, so I'll be posting some of my sketches and drawings here.

So here's two from the first session last week -

Definitely prefer the shading on the second one, but I think the anatomy's better on the first. Going to try to be a bit more bold (and accurate) at the next session, and worry less about how it looks. But I really had trouble getting all the proportions right. Might try the pencil measurement trick, where you hold up a pencil and use it to measure relative proportions.

A Face From the Nose Aroundwards

This drawing is titled such because I literally started from the nose, and worked my way around the face, which was interesting because I usually start with the outline of the face. I am fascinated and inspired by Surrealism, and have been trying to incorporate elements of it into my own work.

A tropical country....

The haze in Singapore making everything look surreal and smell smoky.

Observational sketches

More pen on paper sketches

 Pomegranate
Ceiling fan

Squirrel on a Backpack

Disclaimer: Neither the birds nor the image of the man with the squirrel are my own, I adapted them from photos I found online and thought were really awesome.

Pen on paper (:

Intimacy

First of all, sorry for not posting for so long! I got home from uni a few days ago, and things have been a little insane since. I just managed to find time to re-install photoshop, and to transfer this photo from my camera, so here goes:

They're small sculptures made from air-dry terracotta clay, a bit larger than the size of my hand. They took longer than expected (as always) but Im happy with the end result ;D

Scrapbooking my first year at university

Whoops sorry this is so long, can't work out how to hide part of the post unless somebody clicks? This is (kind of) representative of my first year at uni, minus the studying bit.

Puzzle

A 2000-piece jigsaw. I know most people wouldn't consider it art, but I find the process of doing it strangely similar to art-making. It is enjoyable, relaxing, frustrating, therapeutic and time-consuming lol.

Matter

This painting... is essentially black paint + the remains of my last painting. I like how it turned out though.

Ship of Promises

Further experiments with copper paint, love the shimmery-ness of it. I added cut up plastic over the top this time, in the shape of a ship (hard to see it properly in a photo). I want to continue playing with this copper paint, feels like it has so many possibilities. The title of this work is inspired by a song by the band Villagers.

Artistic Detritus

Just an experiment mixing different paints and adding air-dry clay, some of which was already dry and I crushed into a powder to sprinkle over.

Triplets

Black and white acrylic on canvas

After The Scream - In progress

After Edvard Munch's 'The Scream', absolutely love the power of that painting.

A clay pot with mehendi (henna) inspired designs in pastel.
